2006 Survey
Building upon five years of providing valuable industry knowledge, the fifth-annual Arxcel Prescription Benefit Research Survey gathers the perspectives and opinions of human resource and corporate executives nationwide regarding issues central to prescription benefit management. This year’s survey explored a new area: Whether U.S. companies “carve in” or “carve out” their prescription drug benefit program from their overall health plan to better manage costs.
Readers of Forbes, Drug Topics and Managed Healthcare Executive benefited from Arxcel’s insight and results garnered historically through the survey. The Arxcel Survey continues to serve as an important resource in providing information on the current perceptions and latest trends within the prescription benefits industry.

2005 Survey
As regulation, scrutiny and interest regarding Canadian drugs and direct-to-consumer advertising hit unprecedented levels, the 2005 Arxcel Prescription Benefit Research Survey provides insights and proves a timely resource for industry leaders. This survey captures employers' analysis of Americans' consumption of Canadian drugs--including the legal access and safety of imported drugs.
Building on the data gathered annually since 2002, this research also gauges trends by tracking industry leaders' attitudes towards increasing drug costs, focusing on factors contributing to increases and proposed solutions for cost escalations.
Featured on the cover of Drug Benefit Trends and in Brandweek, the survey charts the changing landscape of the pharmaceutical industry. Drug Topics, Pharmaceutical Commerce and Doctor’s Health Journal also reference the 2005 survey results in their considerable editorial exploration of controlling prescription benefit costs while providing access to affordable pharmaceutical treatment.

2004 Survey
We set forth again in 2004 to discern from employers what they expected to see and do with regard to consumers—what would employers continue to pay; what would they begin expecting employees to take responsibility for; what impact might government involvement have? Additionally, we asked participants to share their views regarding America’s aging workforce and the recent Bipartisan Medicare Agreement.
The research was completed in April and has already been featured on WSJ.com, as well as in Drug Topics and Crain’s Health Pulse. Additionally, Employment Benefit Trends will publish an article on the survey in its fall 2004 issue.

The second survey in the series honed in on the particular aspects of the first year’s research that seemed to be of highest value. It revealed a specific interest in the perspective of employers regarding trends in employee drug benefits. This interest is likely attributed to the impact that employers have on the industry. In short, their decisions and actions create change.
The impact of the second survey was also significant, and numerous articles and features appeared both online, Medscape.com and DrugTopics.com, as well as in trade publications, including Drug Benefit Trends, Drug Topics, Insurance Advocate and Compensation & Benefits Review.

2002 Survey
Our
first research survey in 2002 evaluated the opinions of managed
care executives, third party administrators and employers regarding
the current state of and future trends in the prescription drug
industry. The study determined respondents’ viewpoints regarding
the rising cost of pharmaceutical benefits, solutions for the cost
increases and the viability of the solutions available.
It served as a valuable reference for industry leaders
across the nation. Articles in publications such as USA
Today, Drug Topics, Reuters, Insurance Advocate, Crain’s New York
Business and Crain’s Health Pulse used the 2002 survey
to inform readers about this changing and complex industry. Additionally,
pharmaceutical and healthcare industry reporters at ABC,
Fortune, Newsweek, BusinessWeek and WebMD used the research and its underwriter
Arxcel for valuable background in building a general body of knowledge
about the pharmaceutical industry and the prescription drug benefits
industry.
